Axillary: Beginning our Digi Pack

We have decided to keep the black and white theme running through our digi pack as well as our music video. We have used images from the same locations, our logo and the same actors. This all creates synergy between the products to create a brand. Fans will easily be able to identify that the products are related, and will be more likely to buy/watch the other one due to their familiarity.

Axillary: Social Media pages

We have created social media to put links onto our website. This is because our target audience are young adults who are all avid users of the internet. Fans will be able to keep up to date with what the band are doing and their future tour dates.

Axillary: Website editing

Using smoke as an image on our website creates a link to our music video. This is also an effect/tool that indie rock artists tend to use; it has a very stylish and simplistic feel to it. We felt that this would emphasise that our band our focused on talent, rather than just 'boy band good looks'.

Production: Editing

We have been editing the footage that we re-filmed yesterday, and have also placed the bands logo over the opening time lapse.
This is to create a brand identity and inform the audience of the bands logo. This will therefore make their products stand out to fans in stores/online as they recognise the logo from the music video.

Axillary: Beginning the Website

We have started to construct our first axillary text, which is a website. We have sorted the basic layout and navigation of the website, but still need to insert band images.
We have gone with a simple monochrome theme, this is to compliment the black and white music video. Indie rock bands also tend to use quite plain colours to create a retro effect, and stay away from bright colours.

Production: Filming on the 10th November

We filmed at Knettishall Heath, and then in Bury St Edmunds. However once we had got to Bury the lighting was too dark, therefore we may not use that footage.

Production: America Filming

We are beginning to edit the filming that Holly took in America, which will be spread throughout our music video.
We have changed them into black and white, and altered the exposure and brightness on some to make areas stand out. This also helped us to match lighting throughout the video, due to the filming taking place in different locations/times. This will help to ensure continuity as the brightness won't be jumping around.
Black and white is an effect that we have chose to have running throughout our music video. Firstly this is due to the indie rock genre, which is known for using effects to 'age' the film. The Neighbourhood also use a black and white effect, therefore we felt it was appropriate to pay homage to their work.

Planning: Division of labour

  • Filming: we have decided to split this role equally between us, as each of us may be in the music video at different times
  • Editing: We have decided to all take a role within this section. However I will be in charge of the colour manipulation and the black & white effect which runs throughout.
  • Sound design: Phoebe will be in charge of bringing the music to our filming sessions, and making sure the actors lip sync in time with the music. She will also make sure that the lyrics and lips syncing match up at the editing stage
  • Director: We will all play a role within this, but Holly will be in charge of the shot list and story board. She will make sure we film every shot, and will determine what order to do things in.
  • Props & costumes: I will be in charge of getting most of the props, as the filming when we use the fire and smoke bombs will take place at my house. However all the actors will be responsible of bringing their own phones and costumes
  • Make-up: Holly and phoebe will be in charge of bringing the makeup we need to each filming date.

Self Marking Research and Planning (so far)

From marking my planning and research that is not yet complete, I would say I am in between level 2 and 3. This is because:

  •  Planning and research is incomplete, however the posts that I have put on and very detailed.
  • We have began to create our story board and shot lists, however we haven't posted these to our blogs yet.
  • We have a definite idea of the actors we are using, and know where we wish to film. However we haven't organised dates yet.
  • I have used a variety of technologies on my blog including maze, prezi, powtoon, glogster and slide-share
  • Our care and presentation throughout this project has been consistently clear.

Production: Creating the time lapse

To create the time lapse we have placed it into final cut pro and sped the clip up to 8000%. Due to there being little wind on the day it was filmed, it needed to be sped up a lot. As we are using black and white throughout our video, we have added this on. We lowered the exposure to make clouds stand out more and darker. Using a time lapse is very typical of music videos, as well as variation of paces. Therefore we felt by beginning our music video with this time lapse, it would grab the audience's attention quickly.

Production: 23rd September Time Lapse Filming

On this date there was the perfect weather to film the time lapse of the clouds. I left the camera running for 20 minutes as there was little wind, therefore it needed to be filming for a long time for us to see sufficient movement.

Research & Planning: Target Audience Survey - Results Analysis

Research & Planning: Audience Feedback, deciding on our band name

We have deiced on the the band name 'Fuse'. This is because it got the join highest mark of the multiple choice options. Many other people also stated in the comments that 'The fuse' could be improved, by removing 'The'. We agreed with these comments, and feel that 'Fuse' suits the indie rock genre.

Research & Planning: Deciding on a band name

As we have chosen our own band we have to create a name for them that will suit the style we are going for. Theses are some possible names we are going to use:

- Unmasked
- Arctic Skulls
- The Runners
- The Endless Mountain
- The Fuse

However we thought it would be best for our target audience to decide on the name, so we have create a survey monkey. I have posted it onto my social media sites, as the large majority of my friends fit into our target audience.

Pilot Music Video: The Exponents - Why Does Love Do This To Me?

Final Cut Pro - Green Screen

Our class was split into groups, each of us had to learn a new technique within Final Cut Pro. I got green screen, and this is my tutorial.

Research: Music Industry Article Summary

The music industry is made up of four main conglomerates; EMI Group, Warner Music group, Sony BMG and Universal Music Group. They own over 80% of the music industry, with only under 20% being owned by Indie Labels such as Rounder Records. These conglomerates want to keep their dominance over the music industry, therefore if an artist, group or label gets too popular, they buy them up (Horizontal Integration). According to www.songrights.com companies give 9%-12% of the profits to the artist, then keep the rest.

Traditional methods of Record labels singing artists, then selling their songs is beginning to change. The internet means that artists can reach audiences without the need of a major record label. Software to produce music can be purchased for very little, even as an app on smart phones. Unsigned artists can now sell music to iTunes, have it streamed on Spotify, Sound cloud or YouTube.
Audiences now consume music in a different way, and the music industry has struggled to keep up. The main problem is 'free' music, audiences are now less likely to pay for songs, and therefore piracy has risen. Piracy is loosing the music industry $12.5 billion every year, company's such as Spotify have tried to change this. They allow audiences to listen to music for free, without downloading it. Youtube has censored videos so they cannot be downloaded.
'The Superstar Economy is where the internet is meant to weaken the dominance of large artists, and increase the names of smaller niche artists. But research has show that the internet is not having this effect, superstars are taking most of the music revenues and their shares are increasing. The top 1% of the music industry take 77% of the profits in the music industry (2013).

This is the questionnaire that I am going to hand out to my target audience, in order to see which of my ideas is the best.
